D3403 Divundu, Divundu, Namibia Show map Phone: +264-66-259 901

Opened in 1989, Ndhovu Safari Lodge is the oldest establishment of its kind on the Okavango River. The area is home to large game such as elephant and hippo and to more than 400 different bird species such as the black-crowned night heron, purple gallinule and carmine bee-eater – heaven for any ornithologist.

During the rainy season the area around the lodge is very often flooded; then Ndhovu is transformed into an island on the Okavango.

Activities

Mahango Park: The Mahango park is only about 10 minutes away from the lodge and will surprise you with the impressive bull elephants and herds of elephants. In addition to an enormous variety of birds, you can also discover hippos, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffes, roan and roan antelopes. The park is also home to kudus, red lechwe antelopes, impalas, bushbuck, ibexes, ostriches and much more. Leopards and hyenas are spotted again and again on the game drives. Watch the cute baboons and the green monkey (Velvet Monkey) as they socialize. You can choose whether you want to do a 3 hour tour or a full day tour through the park with one of our experienced guides. During the lunch included in the full-day tour, you can also admire the flora and fauna of this very species-rich park at the waterhole or the river. Buffalo Park: A wild and exciting place. Here you see a completely different landscape than in the neighbouring Mahangopark, although both parks belong to the Bwabwata park system and are only separated from each other by the Okavango. After a 5-minute boat ride, you will be taken directly from the lodge to the Buffalopark, where your guide will be waiting for you with the game cart. Our experienced and well-trained guides will bring you closer to the flora and fauna to be found here and also tell you a lot about the interesting history of the Buffalo Park. Let yourself be enchanted by the often-large herds of elephants with up to 200 animals in the Buffalo Park and watch these heavyweights play and swim in the wet plains. Here you can experience how elephants live together with family groups and how careful they are with their babies and young animals. You will also find large herds of buffalo here. Watch hippos going ashore and wallowing and lazing in the water. At the river's edge you often have the chance to marvel at large crocodiles sunbathing. The species-rich world of water birds also invites you to linger longer. With a bit of luck you can find lions, leopards, hyenas and the rare wild dogs here. You can also come across large herds of sable antelopes, sometimes comprising up to 70 animals. You will find kudus, red lechwe, bushbuck, impalas, warthogs and much more. To meet. The game drive can be booked either as a short tour (approx. 3 hours) or as a full-day drive, including lunch. Okavango boat safari: Enjoy the guided boat trip on the Okavango. Relax with a sundowner and watch hippos, herds of elephants drinking, buffalo and many species of birds. With a little luck you can also see leopards drinking by the river. Fishing trip: Let our local guide take you to the most promising fishing spots and try your hand at catching a tigerfish, tilapia or catfish. Village tour / village hike: Here you can experience how the locals live in their huts made of sand, wood and cow dung. One of our lodge employees will show you his own kraal and introduce you to the way of life of the local people. A visit to school and kindergarten is just as much a part of it as a short visit to one of the shebeens (local bar). This is not a conventional tour or a so called living museum, but it shows you the real life of the people. Popa Falls boat tour: Our Popa Falls boat tour is a 4 to 5 hour boat tour where our local guide will explain the life of the people on the river to you. They watch how the men and boys try to catch their dinner on their little mokoros (dugout canoes) with the most primitive fishing rods, see women washing their clothes on the river or how mothers bathe their children in the river. The local people (Kavangos) are a very friendly and nice people, who are also happy when you wave to them and greet them. During the tour you will get a packed lunch and satisfy your hunger on the boat between the elephant and the hippo. On the way to and from Popa Falls you can also watch crocodiles, hippos, many water birds and elephants drinking.
